Atopic skin disease

Atopic skin disease is a predisposition to having allergic reactions to substances that are usually harmless. Some of the most common substances that cause this are dust mites and pollen, which are hard to avoid, since they occupy so many of the places that our pets are around.

Common symptoms can include itching, excessive scratching, rubbing on the carpet, hair loss, greasy or flaky skin with a foul odor, excessive chewing on the paws and areas such as the groin and armpits. Over time as the skin is scratched and irritated it can become inflamed and eventually infected.

All breeds are susceptible, and the severity can vary from pet to pet. To learn more about Atopic Skin Disease, please call us today at (814) 542-2385.
